Man aims to save on groceries

There’s no question that the world revolves around food. Americans spend over $400 billion per year on groceries, but what if you could cut your bill in half?

While shopping at the grocery store, you may have noticed your receipt totals slightly increasing lately. That’s because the price of food is on the rise.

The cost of the most basic staple items in your pantry are rising, too. Domestically, wholesale food prices rose 3.9 percent in February.

“I had been living out of the country for quite a few years and I saw a lot of people that were poor and didn’t have a lot,” said Wesley Haws, owner of Super Savings. “So when I came back to America, I wanted to figure out a way to help people out here.”

Haws said he knows the struggles people go through just to put food on the table, and he wants to do something about it.

“I set out to save people money on their groceries,” said Haws. “We get truckloads of groceries that other stores pull off their shelves for any sort of reason and we sell them for at least 50% off what you can get them anywhere else.”

The average American spends more than $100 per week on grocery store items. Haws said if you shop at Super Savers, you could cut that cost in half.

“The stores are all anonymous but they all put the stuff together that they pull out of their stores,” said Haws. “I buy it by the truckload and I have no idea what’s going to be in there until it shows up.”

Haws has a Super Savings store location in Rexburg. He said he’s testing out the waters to possibly open another store in Bonneville County.

A Super Savings tent will remain open for business throughout the rest of the weekend near the Walmart in Ammon.

Shoppers are welcome from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.
