Pocatello’s first sponsored African student graduates college

The first student from Pocatello’s African Sister City sponsorship program has graduated college.

Jacques Teri just received his bachelor’s degree in English Language from the University of Ougadougou in Burkina Faso.

His sponsor, Carol Nelson of Chubbuck, has paid $590 a year for the last four years for Teri through college.

Nelson said Teri is going on to get his master’s degree, and he’ll be able to get a good-paying job as a result.

She sponsors a second student in Pocatello’s sister city of Kwaremenguel and said it’s been worth every dollar.

“It made me feel really happy that out of the blue, someone could touch somebody else’s life by giving them an education. I thought that was wonderful,” she said.
