UPDATE: Idaho Falls lifts boil order

Idaho Falls has lifted its boil order for all impacted areas.

The city’s watersuperintendent, David Richards, issued an “all clear” after at about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday confirming that the city water system was operating at 100 percent capacity and is contamination free.

“This action was undertaken to ensure both the quality of the water and the integrity of the city’s water delivery system,” said Richards. “The order has now been lifted after independent lab tests confirmed that the water in Idaho Falls is safe for consumption. As a public utility, we make every effort to deliver safe and affordable water to our customers and that is why we issued the order. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.”

Certain parts of the city had been under a boil order as aprecautionarymeasureafter the city experienced a water pressure drop over the weekend. The computer control system responsible for the pressure drop had been identified and was being corrected. The safety measure was undertaken as a mandated, precautionary step until new water testing can be completed and the city water system can be run without restrictions, the city said.

“When the system pressure drops, there’s potential for water from inside someone’s house or business to come back into the city’s system,” said Richards on Monday.
