Rescuers rappel down cliff to car crash

Emergency crews say two young adults are luck to be alive after a car crash Thursday morning in Swan Valley.

The two were driving along the Snake River when the driver lost control and rolled his van down an embankment, striking a pine tree and coming to a halt feet from the water.

Rescuers had to rappel down the 30 foot cliff to reach the crash. Just three feet to the right and crews say this would have turned from a rescue to a recover.

Swan Valley Fire and EMS were assisted by Swan Valley Tech Rescue and Bonneville County Sheriff’s Back Country Deputies.

The driver and passenger were both wearing their seat belts and escaped with minor injuries.

Swan Valley Fire would like to let drivers know that when driving on gravel roads, slow down and take your time.
