Deseret Industries donation area popular place for thieves

Rexburg police say they plan to crack down on what has been a series of thefts from donation bins at Deseret Industries. Captain Randy Lewis said there has been a rash of thefts from the donation area.

In one recent incident, he said a couple pulled in with a trailer and proceeded to load it up with donated items. A surveillance video helped identify the Idaho Falls couple responsible for that theft. No formal charges have yet been filed in that case. In another case, police caught a couple in the act of stealing merchandise.

Lewis suspects thieves are reselling the merchandise for cash at regional garage sales.
