Convicted felon back in Wyo. jail after deportation

A convicted felon that had been deported is back in custody following his arrest on a felony warrant in Jackson on Wednesday.

Teton County, Wyo., sheriff’s deputies and Jackson Police found 25-year-old Ramiro Lopez-Montiel in an alley behind North Glenwood Street at about 4:35 pm.

Lopez-Montiel was subject of an active felony warrant out of Teton County District Court as a result of a 2010 conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

This time, deputies said, he provided false information and fake documents to avoid being arrested, so is also charged with misdemeanor interference with a peace officer.

The sheriff’s office said Lopez-Montiel was convicted of aggravated assault in 2010 and given a suspended sentence. He was turned over to the custody of Immigration Customs Enforcement and deported from the United States. They said investigation revealed Lopez-Montiel returned to the United States illegally using a different name and fake identification.

The ICE and the Teton County Sheriff’s Office’s investigation is continuing.
