Jay Hildebrandt

Jay was born in Milwaukee, Wis., and lived there throughout his childhood and high school years. He got his first broadcast training at Brigham Young University where he was a news anchor for both KBYU-FM and KBYU-TV. Jay graduated with a degree in broadcast communications.

Jay’s first job after college was in Twin Falls, Idaho, at KMVT-TV where he anchored for two years. Then, he moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he anchored at WKJG-TV for four years.

A desire to move his family back to the West brought Jay to Idaho Falls and to KIFI in 1984. Jay still anchors the news every weeknight at 5, 6 and 10 p.m.

A special project for Jay has been his Wednesday’s Child reports. Each week a child is featured who needs a Big Brother or Sister figure, a foster home or an adoptive family. The series of reports has been highly successful in placing children with these loving families and individuals.

Jay continues to be involved in a number of local community activities. He has served on the Governor’s Children’s Trust Fund Board, the Region VII Health and Welfare Advisory Board and the Safe Place Advisory Board.

Jay’s wife, Sally, is a teacher, and they have five children.

Join Jay every weeknight on Local News 8 at 6 p.m. and Local News 8 at 10 for all your latest news. Watch Wednesday’s Child each Wednesday at 6 and 10 p.m. to meet another child who needs a loving family on KIFI Local News 8, eastern Idaho’s most-watched local news station.
