Failure to register as sex offender lands man in prison

A former Pocatello man will go to prison after pleading guilty to not registering as a sex offender when he moved out of state.

David Leon Munday was sentenced Monday to 51 months in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release for failing to register as a sex offender in Kentucky and for failing to update his registration in Idaho, U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced.

Munday, 55, appeared before Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill at the federal courthouse in Pocatello.

Munday was required to register as a sex offender due to his 1988 conviction for rape. According to Idaho State Police records, Munday last signed the Idaho sex offender registration paperwork in July 2011. On Sept. 14 of last year, Pocatello police interviewed Munday about a reported sexual assault of two minors. He failed to appear for a follow-up interview and did not report to work.

In January 2012, U.S. Marshals learned that Munday was in Kentucky. They arrested him Feb. 14 after learning he had not registered as a sex offender in that state.

Munday was returned to Idaho and pleaded guilty in May to failing to register and update his sex offender registration.
