Report: US sweetening pot for Bergdahl, Taliban prisoner trade

It appears the United States is stepping up its efforts to bring Hailey native and POW Bowe Bergdahl back home.

Reuters is reporting the U.S. is sweetening the pot for Bergdahl’s Taliban captors.

In the proposed deal, the U.S. would release five senior Taliban members from Guantanamo Bay to Qatar in exchange for Bergdahl.

The U.S. had initially offered to release the five into two groups, one before and one after the Taliban released Bergdahl, according to the report.

The 26-year-old is the only U.S. Prisoner Of War.

The United States reportedly hopes this will be the beginning of peace talks with the Taliban.
