Going green helps customers save some green

Rocky Mountain Power is offering new incentives for Idaho customers looking to lower their electricity bills.

Your home uses energy every day, all day long. It uses energy to keep you warm and cool, provide you with light and hot water, and to run all of your appliances and electronics.

“We always encourage the wise use of energy,” said Glen Pond with Rocky Mountain Power.

Rocky Mountain Power customers who make home improvements and upgrades that will save them energy and money are being rewarded.

An example would be the company’s cash back incentives. A household can get $200 cash back for having a qualified gas furnace, $700 for heat pump upgrades and even $1,000 for heat pump conversions.

“With a 60 percent efficient furnace, for every dollar’s worth of gas you’re putting in, 40 cents are going up the chimney,” said Bob Bidstrup, manager at First Call Jewel. “With a 95 percent efficiency, only 5 cents are going up the flue.”

Rocky Mountain Power officials said the more steps households take to reduce energy consumption, the more they’re rewarded.

“That’s one thing that they can do is bundle their program and save additional money,” said Pond. “So if you’re doing multiple things at your home, then you can save even more money.”

Not only is being energy efficient good for your wallet, it’s good for the environment.
