Idaho runaway leads police on high-speed chase
A two-state, one hour, 100-mile, high-speed pursuit ended with the arrest of a 17-year-old boy in Soda Springs on Saturday night.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol pulled over a 2006 Chrysler in a traffic stop west of Kemmerer on US 30 at around 11 p.m. The car was reported stolen from a Green River, Wyo., job site earlier that day.
The boy, believed to be a runaway from Idaho, did stop, but took off when the trooper approached the vehicle, police said. The lone Wyoming trooper pursued the car for about 54 miles at speeds of 120 miles per hour.The driver stopped once more on U.S. Highway 89, just before entering a construction zone near the Idaho border. But, when ordered to exit the vehicle, the driver again took off at high speed and crossed the state line headed for Montpelier.
Idaho State Police picked up the chase along with a Bear Lake County deputy.An attempt to spike the tires of the vehicle near Montpelier was unsuccessful and the chase continued into Caribou and Bannock Counties.
Eventually, Soda Springs police successfully spiked the tires of the stolen vehicle and the juvenile was taken into custody.
The boy was being held in a juvenile detention facility facing numerous charges in Wyoming, including a felony charge of larceny of a vehicle, eluding, no driver’s license, reckless driving, interference with a peace officer and reckless endangerment.
