Rigby High School construction on-schedule

Next fall, Rigby High School students will begin classes in a brand new, 275,000-square-foot building.

Crews began construction last spring and said they’re on track for completion next year.

“We’re on time, under budget and it looks good,” said Superintendent Ron Tolman of School District 251.

For Tolman, showing off what will be the newest addition to his district gives him a sense of pride.

Students grades nine through 12 will call the $40 million dollar high school home next fall, and Tolman said that price is a total bargain. Originally, crews estimated the price tag at around $60 million.

“We just happened to be able to get in at a time when prices were low and we were able to pass a bond so we were able to pass a bond,” said Tolman. “It’s one of the most beautiful buildings in southeast Idaho for a bargain price.”

Tolman said due to increased enrollment and the school board wanting to replace some of the district’s older buildings, this new building was born.

However the new Rigby High won’t just offer more classroom space for students. Tolman said more classes, programs and activities will be offered, too.

“It is a bigger high school, offering more complete offerings to students curriculum-wise,” said Tolman. “Academically, they’ll have a lot of choices available to them.”
