Idaho Falls school burglarized

Idaho Falls police are investigating a burglary at Compass Academy that occurred sometime Friday night.

The school, at the 800 block of Garfield, was burglarized sometime between 7 and 11:30 p.m. Friday.

Officers were dispatched to the school around 11:50 p.m. after an employee reported the vandalism and burglary. The employee found the school cafeteria and kitchen in disarray, a motorized scissor lift crashed into a salad bar, computer equipment knocked off desks, a broken bathroom sink and other damages.

The estimated damage is about $18,000. There was also a $900 laptop stolen from the school.

Police have no suspects at this time. They likely entered the building after breaking the glass on two doors on the southwest side of the school, police said Monday.

The District 91 magnet school just opened to freshmen and sophomores this fall.

Anyone with information about this burglary is asked to contact the Idaho Falls Police Department at (208) 529-1200 or Crimestoppers at 522-1983.
