Radio hosts shave heads for breast cancer

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and two big personalities in southeast Idaho have made a bold statement for the cause.

Mike Nelson and Liza Raley of Classy 97 KLCE shaved their heads to raise awareness of the disease and offer support to those affected by breast cancer.

Mike and Liza say they hope to draw attention to the importance of regular mammograms and cancer screenings with their new hairstyles.

According to the American Cancer Society, around one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.

“I think we both personally know people who have been affected by breast cancer and at that point, it’s a really easy thing for us to do compared to what they’re going through,” said Nelson.

“Yeah it’s just hair. It’ll grow back. We just want to be as supportive as possible,” said Raley.

Statistics show that this year 1,000 women in Idaho will be diagnosed with new cases of breast cancer, so early detection is key.
