Police investigate ISU coach

Police are investigating whether Idaho State University head football coach Mike Kramer’s two-handed push of a wide receiver during a recent practice constitutes criminal behavior.

The Pocatello Police Department confirmed Tuesday that it is working with campus law enforcement in its inquiry of the Oct. 3 incident involving Derek Graves, a senior wide receiver, and Kramer. A university official confirmed an independent, third party investigator is also looking into the video.

Graves has not been able to play since in the incident because of injuries.

Graves has hired an attorney from Alabama. Our Taylor Alward spoke with that attorney, Don Jackson. He said, “It is not appropriate for any coach to physically assault a student athlete. If a student athlete did this to another student athlete, he would be subject to arrest for assault.” The fact that it occurred on a football practice field doesn’t allow a coach to engage in an uncivil way.”

ESPN’s “Outside The Lines” will air a more in depth report on the video and the investigation Wednesday at 1 p.m.
