Jacob Myler

Achievements in sports are often recognized – achievements in the classroom, not as much. United Dairymen of Idaho Distinguished Student Award winner, Ririe High School senior, Jacob Myler, is a high achiever in both.

As quarterback for the Ririe Bulldogs, Jacob leads his team on the football field. He’s also involved in basketball and track. Jacob feels sports teaches some important lessons.

“Have that push of, ‘I can do this, I’ve done what I need to do to get here, I’ve just got to perform’,” Jacob says.

Jacob is well rounded. He has also played trumpet in honors band, and he’s involved in student government – all the while getting mostly A grades.

“Academics is how you make it in the world,” Jacob says. “Especially from my view, I plan on going to college and receiving a college education – I’m putting lots of efforts into my grades and curriculum.”

That’s a lot of school work and outside activities taking Jacob’s time. How does he successfully balance it all?

“If I’m in math, I’m focusing on math, if I’m in history, I’m focusing on history, and when I leave the schoolroom and head to the practice field, I practice and I put my mind to that sport,” Jacob says.

Jacob enjoys all the activities he’s involved in in school. He wishes he had gotten involved in more earlier.

“If all I had was work to do and sit down and do homework and just focus on the academics, I think it would be kind of hard to go through school, and I find sports and other things to keep me motivated,” Jacob says.
