More on ballot than presidential and proposition elections
In addition to statewide referendums and political offices, a number of local issues will be decided at the polls Tuesday.
The city of Pocatello will ask voters to approve a $2.8 million bond issue to pay for a new animal shelter. It will require a two-thirds majority for approval.
Two issues are going to voters in Bingham County. People who live within the boundaries of the North Bingham Library District are being asked to approve a $2.4 million bond to establish a new Shelley library in the former BMC West building. It will require a two-thirds majority for approval.
The Shelley-Firth Fire District is proposing a $1.7 million general obligation bond to construct a new Shelley Fire Station, renovate the Firth Fire Station and provide for necessary related equipment. The issue will require two-thirds majority approval. The bond won a majority of votes in the May primary, but fell eight votes short of the two-thirds necessary to pass it at that time.
The West Jefferson School District will bring two issues to voters Tuesday. The first is a $4 million general obligation bond to be used for improving and equipping schools in the district. It will require a two-thirds majority for approval. The second is a $300,000, two-year supplemental levy to help meet the cost of supplies and salaries. It will require a simple majority for approval.
For the seventh time, the Salmon School District will try to pass a building bond. This time, the district is seeking $14.2 million to build a new K-8 elementary school building. The general obligation bond would require a two-thirds majority approval of voters.
In Fremont County, the South Fremont Fire District is seeking voter approval to convert its funding base to a full-time permanent levy, including the city of St. Anthony. It will require a two-thirds majority.
About 12 residences in the area want to be included in the Island Park Fire District. The annexation will require simple majority approval from voters who already live within the wide-ranging district.
The city of Montpelier will ask its residents to approve a $2.9 million general obligation bond. The funds would be used to pay for a sewer system upgrade. It will require simple majority approval from voters.
And the city of Inkom is seeking a similar general obligation bond to pay for wastewater treatment improvements. It, too, requires simple majority approval.
