Arrest made in Pocatello SWAT standoff

A man was arrested in Sunday’s early-morning standoff, police said Monday.

Jamin Robert Bowen was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

Neighbors awoke to the sound of a woman screaming before calling the police in the early Sunday morning hours.

After police arrived at 425 Hyde Ave. just after 5 a.m., they said they heardyelling coming from inside the home before there was complete silence. Upon trying to get through the door, the Pocatello Police Department called for assistance from the SWAT team.

“The officers actually tried to force entry to see if everybody was OK, but they couldn’t get through the door,” said Pocatello police Capt. Rick Capell. “We had negotiators trying to talk to the people to try and get them to come out of the house.”

Capell said one person in the house was being held against their will, although specifics have not yet been given out at this time.

Police were able to rescue the family of three, including one 5-year-old girl. Witnesses said only the father emerged from the house with blood covering parts of his clothes.

Neighbors say the couple have a history of heated arguments and they suspect this argument had something to do with custody. None of these accusations have been confirmed by police yet.

By 11:30 a.m., the SWAT team began to disperse.

Lieutenant Paul Manning from the Pocatello Police Department said that it is standard procedure for the SWAT team to be called during this sort of situation.
