Recent Wyoming grizzly bear deaths human-caused

Wildlife officials are reporting an uptick in grizzly bear deaths in the Yellowstone ecosystem.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game says 50 grizzies have died this season. At least six of those deaths were human caused.

Officials say there were more casualties because the grizzly population has grown.

Fish and Game spokesman Gregg Losinski is calling this year a good one for bears.

“Given what could have been a disastrous year because of the lack of precipitation and such — and natural foods — (bears) have once again proved that they’re incredible omnivores and have been able to find alternate food sources rather than getting into trouble with people,” Losinski said.

Fish and Game is working to educate the public about bears in hopes of bringing those human-caused grizzly deaths down.

They’ll be having a public information Monday, Nov. 12 at their Idaho Falls office at 7 p.m.
