Suspicious Phone Calls in Bonneville County

Eastern Idahoans have been getting suspicious phone calls and text messages saying there is a warrant out for their arrest for failure to appear for jury duty.

The Bonneville Country Sheriff’s Office said if you receive that call or text message it is not real and likely a prank or an attempt to defraud people of money. The callers could face charges of telephone harassment.

“At no time will the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office or the courts call you and let you know you have missed jury duty or that you owe fines or that you will be arrested for that,” said Sgt. Jeff Edwards at the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.

If you have missed jury duty, the Bonneville Sheriff’s Office will mail a letter to your home or send a deputy from the Sheriff’s office to the residence and serve a summons for failure to appear for jury duty.

The Sheriff’s Office says because the callers don’t actually show up at people’s homes right now the charge they could face is telephone harassment.
