Community celebrates Christmas on the River in Idaho Falls

Plenty of folks braved the cold at Snake River Landing on Saturday for the third annual “Christmas on the River” celebration.

From cookies, performances and letters to Santa, there was something for everyone.

“I want a batman cave, a snowman cave, a snowman and the joker house,” said 8-year-old Holdem.

Gifts aside, the holidays are also a time of giving back and that’s exactly what the members of the Idaho Falls Chamber Youth Leadership Class were doing today.

“We’re helping little kids write letters to Santa and it’s been a blast so far,” said Joanne Wadsworth, IFCYLC volunteer. “They’ve been asking for everything from drum sets to pet crabs and it’s been fun and Santa is going to write them back pretty soon.”

Santa wasn’t the only popular attraction, the line for the horse-drawn carriage ride was long throughout the day.

“It’s exciting because the event continues to grow every year,” said Jordan Anderson, event organizer. “As we introduce new things and invite Santa to have free photos with everyone who comes, it definitely grows.”

Event organizers say when thinking about holiday shopping, there are a lot of local stores to consider.

“We’re just excited to have as many people from the community come out and find out more about Christmas on the River and enjoy the holiday season and the beauty that Snake River Landing and downtown Idaho Falls have to offer,” said Anderson.
