Man dies after indoor soccer accident
Indoor soccer league play at Teton County/Jackson Parks and Recreation’s center has been suspended after a deadly accident.
In a co-ed game Thursday, player Nicolas Izard, 32, crashed into a wall. Recreation staff called 911, and emergency crews arrived within four minutes. Izard was stabilized and was transported to St. John’s Medical Center in Jackson and later flown to Eastern Idaho Medical Center in Idaho Falls. An EIRMC spokesperson said Izard died Saturday.
“We are deeply saddened, and our hearts go out to Nick’s wife, Sasha, his daughter and other family members and friends at this very sad time,” said Parks and Recreation Director Steve Ashworth. “Recreational sports have inherent risk associated with them; however, we never expect something like this to happen. We take the safety of our all program participants extremely serious, and continually strive to offer safe opportunities.”
According to a news release, staff continues to communicate with Izard’s friends and family, as well as the indoor soccer community. The indoor soccer league play has been suspended through the end of the year, as the department discusses with players their desire to continue, as well as evaluate the program as a whole. All other activities at the Recreation Center will continue as scheduled.
