Angel

Angel is an intelligent, empathetic, creative boy. He has a kind spirit and tends to look out for others. Angel has many talents including art and singing. He’s a big fan of Spiderman and is passionate about collecting Beanie Babies – his collection currently numbers over 100! He welcomes opportunities to try new activities. Angel has the ability to play alone as well as with others. Angel feels most safe and secure in very well structured settings at home and in school. Angel enjoys attending a Christian church with his foster family, and has fun participating in the church’s youth activities.

This past school year, Angel made great progress working diligently on his math and writing, and on increasing his ability to cope with frustration and stress. His new challenge this year is spelling. This year, an IEP continues to help Angel who has moved into a specialized classroom in a regular school setting. Angel is in good health and has had no major health issues in the past.

While Angel has grown leaps and bounds since coming into care, he still needs structure and limit setting at home, in school, and in the community. When anxious, he needs assistance to cope and transition. Angel has become much less rigid in his thinking throughout time and is able to be empathetic with others much of the time. An often effective way to manage his anxiety is to take time outs, engage with transitional toys or items, and/or talk through his anxiety or frustration.

In the past, Angel benefitted greatly from his involvement in day treatment, individual counseling, and sibling counseling. For the foreseeable future, he will also need some counseling supports at least on an as-needed basis. This will help his transition into his adoptive home and will be an effective way for his adoptive folks to show love and commitment. It would also show they value using such resources to help family members deal with past hurts and move forward emotionally and behaviorally in healthy ways.

Couples and single moms and single dads who are creative, flexible and insightful, and who understand that they need to be strong advocates for Angel at school and in the community, will meet his needs best. Angel has many interests and his adoptive parent(s) need to be able to provide appropriate outlets for him to express himself.

Folks who parent in calm, patient ways, and who will interact with Angel with positive regard will help him settle into his new family and home. Angel is very responsive when his significant adults provide plenty of time and attention to discuss issues and determine discipline when needed. It is also important for Angel to be able to have his own space to retreat when he needs some “refueling” or down time.

Angel’s adoption transition will include consultation with his foster family, therapist, and his younger brother’s treatment team.

Angel wants an active and fun family that has children either in the home or in the neighborhood with whom he can play on a regular basis. He would love to have a puppy! However, Angel needs to be the youngest child in a home, of only 1 or 2 older siblings at most, so that he can receive extensive individual attention and nurturing. Angel would likely get overwhelmed or overshadowed in a large family

Angel has a huge heart with an equally huge smile that lights up a room. He has been asking for an adoptive family for some time and is ready to move into a home that he can call his own.
