Four finalists named for Idaho Falls city attorney

Bonneville County Prosecutor Bruce Pickett is among four finalists selected by the city of Idaho Falls to become the city’s new city attorney.

In addition to Pickett, a seven-person selection committee also nominated Battelle Energy Alliance Senior Legal Counsel Reed E. Andrus, Moscow City Attorney Randall D. Fife and Boyd J. Hawkins, the managing member of his own Kaysville, Utah, law firm.

The new full-time position will be responsible for administering all of the city’s legal issues. The field of four was narrowed from 24 applicants.

If selected for the city position, Pickett said he would have to step down as county prosecutor. It would then be left to the Bonneville County Republican Central Committee and County Commission to select a successor.

Idaho Falls Human Resources Director Brian Sagendorft said all four finalists were selected based on the merits of their respective qualifications and response to interview questions.

“We have been very pleased in the response the city has received to this new position and the quality of applicants that have shown interest,” said Sagendorf.”Regardless of who is selected, we are confident that the city is going to be very well served”.

A second round of face-to-face interviews will follow, before the panel makes its final recommendation to Mayor Jared Fuhriman.A final decision is expected by early to mid-February.
