Grocers slash prices ahead of Super Bowl

Super Bowl Sunday is almost here, which means it’s time to start getting ready for watch parties.

Americans are expected to spend almost $12.3 billion in preparation for the big game.

Thankfully, grocery stores in eastern Idaho are featuring plenty of essentials at reduced prices.

Before we pack our stomachs with nachos and wings, Broulim’s employees are busy packing the aisles with bargains.

Basics like chips, frozen appetizers and soda are marked down. “Big ticket” items, like salsa made on location, is also on sale.

Broulim’s fresh salsa is cheaper than big-name brands. You can also slice the price of nacho cheese by purchasing it from the deli counter, instead of buying it prepackaged. Prepackaged dips will set you back, but basic ingredients to make your own are marked down this week.

Wings, on the other hand, can actually save you money if you buy them already packaged.

Despite word of a possible chicken wing shortage, Broulim’s manager Ian Martinson said there are plenty of chicken wings to go around in their Rexburg store, and that the wings will cost no more than they did in 2012.
