More INL layoffs to take place

More job cuts are happening at the Idaho National Laboratory.

A spokesperson for Battelle Energy Alliance, which contracts with the U.S. Department of Energy, says 110 workers have already volunteered to leave their jobs, but that’s still not enough.

Officials say Battelle is looking to eliminate anywhere between 300 and 450 jobs in the near future.

The layoffs are being blamed on increased day-to-day operating costs and a need to remain competitive.

The spokesperson says anyone who opts for a voluntary layoff will receive a severance package, based on length of service and seniority
