Wyo. man gets prison for attacking new bride

A Northern Arapaho tribal member was sentenced in federal court for assaulting his wife of one day and causing her serious bodily injury on the day following their wedding, said Christopher A. Crofts, U.S. attorney for the District of Wyoming on Thursday.

Chief U.S. District Judge Nancy D. Freudenthal sentenced Keith Allen Smith, 37, to eight years in prison, three years of supervised release, and was ordered to pay a $100 special assessment. Smith was also ordered to pay $9,271 in restitution for costs of medical care associated with the victim’s injuries.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs with the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
