2 1/2 Mile fire is contained

Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center crews contained the 1,048 acre “2 1/2 Mile” fire Tuesday night. Firefighters will be mopping up hot spots within the area Wednesday.

The fire was located northeast of Pocatello along the southern boundary of the Fort Hall Reservation and about one mile east of Fort Hall. It burned sage and brush, but threatened no structures.

Nine federal and several local fire department agencies were helping three 20-person hand crews contain the fire, which started by lightning Sunday night. Those crews will begin to be released Wednesday.
