Wolverine Canyon fire containment expected Thursday night

Even with strong winds and hot temperatures, fire activity was minimal on the Wolverine Fire nine miles east of Firth Thursday.

A recognizance flight determined the fire had covered about 230 acres. The Eastern Idaho Interagency Fire Center said crews expect to contain the fire at around 8 p.m. Thursday.

Incident Commander Troy Ballensky said fire crews would continue to reinforce lines around the fire. He planned to release a helicopter from the fire Thursday night and to begin releasing other equipment and personnel on Friday.

Seven fire engines, two dozers, a watertender, ten smoke jumpers and two hand crews were working on the fire Thursday.

The Wolverine Road is open for travel.
