Detectives investigate body found in forest

Teton County, Wyo., deputies want your help in their investigation of the human body found in the Bridger-Teton National Forest on Thursday.

Authorities are treating the case as murder.

The person, a male, had died two weeks or more before the body was found, the sheriff’s office said, making it difficult to pinpoint the cause of death. A man running his dog near Mosquito Creek Road, about four miles south of Wilson, Wyo., discovered the body.

According to a news release, rumors have surfaced about the cause and nature of the death, but investigators are only confirming the head was found a short distance from the torso.

The investigation is now focused on a forensic autopsy, which was to be performed Monday in Idaho Falls. Investigators hope to learn the cause of death from the autopsy, as well as the victim’s identity.

The victim may have been dead for two weeks or longer and may have been camping or frequenting the area, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives want to speak with anyone who may have information regarding this case or who may have been in the area over the past several weeks and witnessed any type of altercation or suspicious activity.
