Drivers confused with Chubbuck’s construction

Many drivers hopping on and off I-15 and I-86 by the Chubbuck interchange are saying the confusing roads are driving them crazy.

However, the Idaho Transportation Department said today the west bridge is slated to be completed by the October 5 weekend, which puts the project one month ahead of schedule.

ITD resident engineer James Orner said this diverging diamond project will allow traffic to get on and off the interstate almost without stopping – which was a dangerous problem beforehand.

“The amount of traffic going through there was starting to back-up,” Orner said. “Especially during peak hours during the morning and evening commute, it was starting to back traffic up onto the interstate.”

Orner said a project this size would normally take roughly two years to complete since they usually build each new bridge one year at a time. However, this entire $10.7 million project which started this past spring, is scheduled to end by November 1.
