Great Neighbors: Highland & Madison girls JV soccer teams

The junior varsity soccer girls at Highland and Madison high schools show sportsmanship is alive and well in eastern Idaho.

When the Madison girls were losing to Highland 5-1, Sarah Roberts, a special needs girl, bounced on the field ready to play for Highland.

Even though the Madison girls were losing, they helped Sarah score – twice.

“To see her running down with a teammate … but to also see Madison team’s running with her … It was just really great,” said her mother, Karen Roberts. “I think there were a lot of tears, not just mine.”

“It’s hard to put into words, just to see beyond, you know, the score of the game and see that there was more at play,” said Sarah’s father, Jeff Roberts.

Sarah was recently voted Highland’s homecoming queen. The homecoming king is a football player on the Highland team with cerebral palsy. Our sports department will be highlighting that story later.
