Hungry Bowl food drive helps hungry pets

This time of year we talk a lot about food, clothing and toy drives. But what about the pets?

It’s time for the third annual Hungry Bowl pet food drive in the upper valley. Last year, the drive gathered about 6,000 pounds of food.

Between the economy and the expensive time of year, shelters are likely to see an increase of animals coming through the doors.Kitten and puppy food is especially needed, but the drive will gladly accept any donations.

The food goes to the Humane Society of the Upper Valley, but they aren’t the only ones who may benefit.

“It will also benefit the local people in our area that are in need of assistance to help feed their pets. because our goal is to keep existing pets in their home, in their forever home,” said Mel Middleton of Happening Hounds of Idaho Falls.

Here are the collection locations for 2013:

Animal Oasis Teton Kennels Pet Resort Apple Athletic Club C-A-L Ranch Rocknack’s Hardware Plus AmeriPet Hotel & Pet Center

Riverbend Communications will also have drop off boxes at the All I Want for Christmas Expo on Dec. 6-7 from 10 a.m.- 7 p.m.

Monitory donations can be sent to: Happening Hounds of Idaho Falls (HHIF), 1795 W Broadway, PMB 270, Idaho Falls, 83402. Please make checks payable to Humane Society of the Upper Valley (HSUV).
