Man gets 5 years in prison after carjacking postal truck

    ST. LOUIS (KMOV) — A 40-year-old St. Louis man was sentenced to five years in prison Wednesday, after pleading guilty to carjacking a postal vehicle in April of last year.

According to court documents, on April 8, 2020, Bryant Willingham approached a postal employee while they were delivering mail in their truck in the 5900 block of Tara Lane. Willingham allegedly tried to open the front passenger door, but it was locked. However, the window was down, and Willingham climbed into passenger seat through the open window.

The postal worker began to drive away to keep Willingham from getting into the vehicle, but he got inside and told the driver to keep going. The employee instead slowed down and jumped out. Willingham climbed into the driver’s seat and drove away. A few minutes later, he crashed at the intersection of Jennings Station and Lewis and Clark Roads.

He fled the scene and boarded a Metro bus, but he bus driver flagged down a St. Louis County Police Officer who boarded the bus and arrested Willingham.

After pleading guilty, he was sentenced to 60 months in prison.
