Man injured in Pocatello shooting
The Pocatello Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened at an apartment complex early Saturday morning.
Police said a man was shot in the upper torso and underwent surgery at Portneuf Medical Center. It happened in the 200 block of S. Garfield around 7:15 a.m. Saturday.
Police said witnesses told them the disturbance started in an upstairs apartment where a man forcibly entered an apartment carrying a weapon. Police said the residents of the apartment, who knew the suspect, yelled at him and forced him to leave. Authorities said the man then went downstairs to another apartment where he forced entry by breaking down the door and still had the weapon in his possession. The downstairs resident who had heard the disturbance armed himself with a firearm. Police say the male subject later broke through the door of the downstairs apartment with the weapon in his hand. The male subject was shot in the upper torso, inside the apartment by one of the residents of the apartment.
The male subject was transported from the scene by ambulance. No other injuries were reported. Further information, including possible charges being filed against the male subject, will be released Monday morning. No names are being released as this is an active investigation and no one has been charged at this point.
