Jana Cherrington Wins Award

Sugar–Salem High School senior –Jana Cherrington — is respected by students and teacher alike. “A master at helping those around her succeed and enjoy education,” is how guidance counselor –Fred Woolley –describes the United Dairymen of Idaho Distinguished Student Award winner.

Jana is passionate about playing the piano.

“You can put a lot of emotion into it,” Jana said. “I think one of the coolest things about music is that someone can play music, but then someone can also be a musician. A musician is how you express your emotions into what you are doing.”

Jana is also involved in band, school musicals, drama and sports, and she’s an outstanding student.

One of Jana’s special qualities is her desire to help and serve others.

“I love serving,” Jana said. “One of my favorite quotes is, ‘Don’t go through life trying to find yourself, go through your life trying to create yourself.’ I think the best way to create yourself is through serving others, because it’s looking more outside the box and doing more good than you could do just focusing on yourself.”

Jana has her future planned out. She plans to go on an LDS mission after high school, then become a nurse and work in a hospital.

While Jana participates in lots of school activities, she says there’s a higher priority for high school students.

“I think being involved is really important, but I think the most important thing is not to forget about your family, because they’re always going to be with you and they’re always there for you, so being with your family is a really important thing in high school,” Jana said.
