American Diabetes Association Alert Day

Tuesday is American Diabetes Association Alert Day. The association wants to encourage people to be tested for Type 2 diabetes.

Medical experts said people who are at risk for diabetes are overweight, under active and have family history of the disease. For this reason, the Rocky Mountain Diabetes and Osteoporosis Center said it is important to get tested.

“A better test would be to do an insulin glucose tolerance test and that can be set up by your physician. You would come in the morning when you are fasting and they would draw some blood,” said diabetes educator Becky Sulik.

A free risk test is available through the Diabetes Association. Click here, http://www.diabetes.org/are-you-at-risk/diabetes-risk-test/. Walgreens locations in Idaho Falls will be offering a free glucose meter and testing strips for purchase. They are offering the items in conjunction with American Diabetes Association Alert Day.
