Fish fill Jensen’s Lake
Idaho Fish and Game stocked Jensen’s Lake Friday with 2,700 rainbow trout.
“We mostly boat here, but now that there is a lot of fish we might as well fish here too,” said Shon Gregersen.
Idaho Fish and Game officials said they’re crews usually put fish into the lake once a season, but this summer they’re stocking the lake twice. Paul Martin, fish culturist for Idaho Fish and Game, said birds are to blame.
“Birds eat fish just like people like to eat fish, and in Jensen’s Lake when it goes dry in the wintertime there is not vegetation for fish to hide in,” said Martin.
One hundred fifty of the 2,700 trout have tags on them. Martin said if you catch one that has a tag on it, report it to the department. City Officials in Blackfoot said reporting the tagged fish is important for the city.
“If we get a 100 percent return, this is a good place to put fish because people are catching them,” Martin said.
You do need a fishing license. You can get one at your local Fish and Game office or at most sporting-goods stores.
Fish and Game will restock the lake with 10-inch trout next month.
