GOP forum held in Blackfoot

The Bingham County Republican Central Committee hosted a candidates’ forum Tuesday night in Blackfoot.

Congressional candidate Bryan Smith and candidate for Governor Russ Fulcher each gave an opening statement and fielded questions for 13 minutes.

A statement and questions then followed for each candidate for Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Controller and State Superintendent.

For the Lt. Governor’s race, incumbent Brad Little and Jim Chmelik participated.

All four republican candidates for Secretary of State participated. That includes Evan Frasure, Lawerance Denney, Mitch Toryanski and Phil McGrane.

Incumbent Lawrence Wasden and C.T. “Chris” Troupis both participated from the Attorney General race.

For the State Controller’s race, incumbent Brandon Woolf and Todd Hatfield participated.

Only two of the four republican candidates for Superintendent of Public Instruction attended. Randy Jensen and Andrew Grover participated.

Becky Prestwich, an attendee who just moved to the area from Illinois, wants to make sure the best candidates are elected.

“I want to know the ones who are going to adhere to my conservative principles that are near and dear to me,” said Prestwich. “Idaho seems to be a very conservative state, and I’d like to make sure it stays that way.”
