Local principal retires after 50 years

After 50 years in the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District, the principal of Pocatello High School is retiring.

Don Cotant began and ended his career in the same school district, starting at what was then called Alameda Junior High (now Alameda Middle School). He taught biology and coached at Highland High School before going to Pocatello High School to teach until 1990 when he became an administrator.

He’s been principal since 2001, and said he’s looking forward to spending time with family.

“I think my wife and have got some good things planned for us and we’re going to enjoy that time,” Cotant said at his party in the high school’s media center. “We’re going to do some travelling, camping and being with family.”

There are a total of 52 employees retiring from School District 25. There will be a ceremony at the Rosewood Reception Center (1499 Bannock Highway) on Thursday from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
