Power pole blocks highway

A truck crashing into a power pole led to the closure of U.S. Highway 30 in Montpelier and the evacuation of a school Monday morning.

The Idaho State Police said around 10 a.m., Fausto Trujillo, 54, of Miami, was eastbound turning onto Boise Street when his trailer struck a power pole. Trujillo was unhurt.

The pole fell into a tree, and the connected wires pulled two other poles out of their bases.

The other two poles did not fall. However, several lines broke and were on the ground, and others were low. This prompted the evacuation of nearby Bear Lake High School.

Both eastbound and westbound traffic on Highway 30 were completely blocked for an hour until crews could open a lane in each direction. The remaining lanes were to be open later Monday when repairs are completed.
