BYUI enrollment impacted by missionary age eligibility
A change in missionary age limits is impacting enrollment at BYU Idaho in Rexburg.
The university reports spring semester enrollment totals 12,931 on campus. That is a 7.7 percent reduction from last year at the same time.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints lowered the age of missionary eligibility in October 2012. Based on current projections, BYU Idaho said the age change will continue to affect enrollment through the end of 2014.
The university’s on-line courses and degree programs continue to grow. The number of enrolled students not on campus totalled 12,141. Last year, that number was 6,852.
This semester the campus student body consists of 6,535 male students and 6,396 female students (50.5 percent and 49.5 percent respectively). The number of married students is 3,591, comprising 27.8 percent of the total campus student population.
