Tornado touches down in Power County

UPDATE 5:00pm 5/22/2014: The National Weather Service in Pocatello has released this report on the tornado…

“A tornado was spotted southwest of Aberdeen around 6:40 pm mdt. It
moved north and slightly west until around 7:00 pm mdt. Radar
estimates showed it was located 1/2 mile north-northwest of the
intersection of north Pleasant Valley Road and County Line Road at
6:41 pm mdt.

Upon doing a damage survey the morning of May 22 2014…Damage was
spotted and recorded at a residence on North Pleasant Valley Road
between Schritter Road and County Line Road. Multiple trees were
uprooted or had branches torn off. Shingles were torn off of the
house and a shed door was damaged and blown off its hinges. There
were also isolated reports of irrigation line damage as the tornado
moved through mostly open fields. No other damage was reported”

A tornado touched down in Power county, west of American Falls, Wednesday evening.

Around 6:40pm, The National Weather Service in Pocatello issued a tornado warning after receiving a report from a trained weather spotter.

The tornado touched down about 8 miles to the Northwest of American Falls. There have been no reports of any damage to structures.

From all reports so far, the tornado formed over farm land and open desert.

The storm moved to the Northwest and into the desert at an estimated speed of 15 to 20 mph. The storm weakened to the point where the tornado warning was cancelled shortly after 7pm.
