Cold Creek Fire estimated at 2,500 acres
AMERICAN FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - UPDATE 6/15/21: The Bureau of Land Management reports the Cold Creek Fire is now estimated at 2,500 acres.
Officials say the increase in acreage was due to more accurate mapping.
The fire is five miles south of American Falls on private ground threatening BLM land.
Fire activity moderated Monday night as the winds calmed, and many local and federal resources will continue to reinforce containment lines Tuesday.
There is no estimated containment at this time.
Numerous structures are still threatened. Two structures have been lost, and multiple power lines are still down.
Evacuation orders have been lifted in the affected areas. The Power County Sheriff's Office said everyone in the Garden Rd, Garden Place, Shannon Drive, Adrian Way, Cindee Circle, Shirley Lane, Sunset Lane and Moonlight Lane areas can go back to their residences. You cannot access Garden Rd from the Sunbeam Road side as Sunbeam is still closed.
Smoke will be visible Tuesday as the fire continues to burn unburned fuel within the interior of the fire perimeter.
The cause is still under investigation.
UPDATE 6/14/21 @ 9:30 p.m. : The Cold Creek Fire is burning about five mile south of American Falls.
BLM fire managers say the fire has burned 1,200 acres and is growing. It's threatening numerous structures. Two structures have been lost, they say.
The fire started at approximately 3:30 p.m. Officials say the fire crossed Sunbeam Road at around 7:30 p.m. and was moving north towards American Falls.
They say one person has suffered smoke inhalation from the fire.
They also say several powerlines are down and is threatening communication towers on Paps Mountain.
There is no estimate on containment.
Original Story: AMERICAN FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - A brush fire is burning south of American Falls.
We are told the Cold Creek Fire is about a 1,000 acres.
The fire is burning on the hills behind the Indian Hot Springs area.
The Power County Sheriff is evacuating people from around the fire.
They say they are evacuating those in the area of Cold Creek Ferry Hallow, Sunbeam Road, Hornbacher Road, Mayer Road and the Garden Road area.
They also ask people to stay clear of Highway 37.
