Man arrested after chase in stolen pickup
A man was booked into the Bonneville County Jail after deputies said he stole a pickup and led them on a chase.
At 6:08 p.m. Tuesday, a 1990 Chevy pickup was stolen from the Quick Stop gas station on Northgate Mile in Idaho Falls. The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said dispatch got five calls about a reckless driver in the pickup within a couple minutes.
The sheriff’s office said the driver was Sterling Johnson, 26, of Idaho Falls.
Deputies found the pickup at 6:13 p.m. near the intersection of Ammon and Lincoln roads. The pickup was all over the road in an area with a lot of motor and foot traffic. Johnson failed to yield as he drove through the Lincoln town site area, the sheriff’s office said. He was heading back toward Ammon Road when a deputy stopped the truck by using a pursuit immobilization technique. Johnson was trying to get the truck back in motion when another deputy used a Taser to stop him.
Johnson was arrested on charges of felony eluding, DUI, no driver’s license and resisting arrest, as well as grand theft and vandalism.
