Flow reduced to river in search for missing rafter

Authorities will reduce the water flow to the South Fork of the Snake River in their search for a rafter missing for more than a week.

The Bureau of Reclamation was reducing the flow from the Palisades Reservoir by 1,500 cubic feet per second Monday to aid in the search for Mason Empey. Jefferson County will see the reduced flow by 9 a.m. Tuesday, and it will continue until 9 p.m. Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said.

The 21-year-old from Idaho Falls has been missing since June 29 near the Lorenzo boat dock. He went overboard trying to get an oar that fell off the raft. Deputies said he was not wearing a life jacket.
