Woman totals cop’s camper while reaching for cell phone

Police say a woman crashed into a parked camper on 14th Street in Idaho Falls Friday.

Upon impact, the camper traveled 35 feet onto a nearby curb.

The driver of the car, Jovan Lewis, said she was reaching for her cell phone at the time of the accident.

The camper she hit belongs to Idaho Falls police officer Buc Rogers.

“Her head just fell like, ‘Oh my gosh. This is a police officer’s camper,'” said Rogers.

Lewis was charged with inattentive driving.

Rogers has placed signs on the camper warning people of the dangers of distracted driving.

At the time of the accident, Rogers and his wife were getting ready to visit his dying father-in-law. The accident delayed them, and he ended up dying before they arrived.

Rogers said the camper is totaled.
