Chubbuck inmate found dead in Arizona jail cell

A man from Chubbuck, Idaho, died from an apparent suicide in an Arizona jail cell.

The Coconino County Sheriff’s Office says 49-year-old Clinton Lee Davis was discovered hanging from a ladder in his cell late Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff’s spokesman Gerry Blair says detention officers and a registered nurse tried to resuscitate Davis, but he was unresponsive. His body was transported to the medical examiner’s office.

Blair says no foul play is suspected.

Davis had been at the jail since April after being arrested by police in Page on suspicion of burglary, theft, criminal damage and possessing prohibited weapons. Police said he had stolen a shotgun and vehicle out of Bear Lake County, Idaho, the Arizona Daily Sun reported. He also was being held on an out-of-state warrant.
