Police: Car break-ins on rise in summer months

Idaho Falls police say you may want to think twice before leaving valuables in your car.

In recent weeks there have been a number of car break-ins throughout the city, including in the Belmont Estates subdivision Tuesday night.

Many also occur during daylight hours, which police say isn’t unusual for this time of year.

“Summer months tend to be a peak season specifically for car burglaries mostly because the weather’s nicer, kids are out of school, the daylight hours are longer, so there’s just more opportunity for those crimes to happen,” said Idaho Falls Police Department spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen.

Police say you can minimize the chances of this happening to you by locking your doors and rolling up windows.
