Rent pasture for mustangs

There are way too many horses and not enough rangeland. So now, the Bureau of Land Management is looking for pasture to rent — something that would hold at least 100 head. They would like long-term pasture facilities with a free roaming environment.

The BLM removes animals from the range to control the size of herds, which have virtually no predators and can double in population every four years. The BLM plans to remove 2,400 animals from the range this year.

As of June 2014, there were more than 47,000 wild horses and burros in BLM custody.

To view the BLM’s bidding requirements, go to fedconnect.net and click on “Search Public Opportunities.” For the search criteria, select “Reference Number” and enter the solicitation numbers L14PS00777 and L14PS00792.
